Mission 01: Karazhan

So as you’ve all seen over at Stabilized Effort Scope, I’ve tromped through the entirety of Karazhan now. That said, I noticed a few behaviours in my fellow Hunters that shocked me somewhat, and I wanted to give a sort of rundown of what I think you should always remember if you’re in Kara. A lot of these will stand out as “common sense” things, but common sense ain’t all that common nowadays.

General All-Purpose Tips:
Inspiring Presence (from a Draenei Shaman/Priest/Mage) is INVALUABLE for a Hunter. 1% less resisted traps and Feigns is amazing, plus (Shadow) Priests and Shamans have delicious buffs for us. Demand your raid leader pair you with one if available!
Feign early, feign often. Pulling aggro is not smart and is a leading cause of wipes. My Prince attempt wiped because the other Hunter pulled aggro at the transition to phase 2 and caused a chain reaction of death.

Boss 1: Attumen the Huntsmen
Be slow and gentle with your DPS so that the aggro isn’t too wonky when your tanks pick up Attumen. I was personally DPSing in Viper until Attumen and Midnight merged so that I’d have a lot of mana for the burn down. Plus, since everyone is standing at 8 or less yards to mitigate the charge attack, you’re gonna need all your mana to compensate for that curse. Hope that your decursers are on the ball, but don’t fret if they’re not, he’ll die in time. Don’t stand in front of him. -_-;

Boss 2: Moroes
TRAP YOUR DINNER GUEST! I SWEAR!! If you are assigned to guest trapping, do it and do it well. Make a macro that lets you Distracting Shot your trap target without losing target on Moroes. I prefer:

/cast [target=mouseover, harm] Distracting Shot

Lets me keep the pressure on Moroes and keep threat on me. If you are lucky enough NOT to be trapping a dinner guest, then FEIGN DEATH DURING EACH VANISH. This makes sure that you won’t be Garroted (I think; maybe it was dumb luck?) as well as helping keep your aggro in check. Don’t do this if you’re trapping, though – an early trap break can have Sir Crispin Ference running for a healer and wiping your raid – and causing a raid wipe is the surest way of getting on everyone’s Do Not Invite list.

Boss 3: Maiden of Virtue
Stand in front of your pillar. Don’t be too close to anyone – chaining the Holy Wrath is stupid. It’s like the eye beam in C’thun phase 1 – you just don’t do it. :|

Boss 4: The Opera
Romulo and Julienne: When both are active, make sure that you are taking directions about which of the two to dispel (if your raid is short on dispelling power). Please be sure to switch DPS when directed to make sure they die at the same time. It’s like Core Hounds in MC or The’kal in ZG (and there’s probably more bosses like it).
Big Bad Wolf: Feign Death works marvelously against turning into Little Red Riding Hood (LRRH). Be sure to be relatively far from the Wolf (so you don’t get feared out of Feign Death) and be ready to run your ass off if FD resists.
Wizard of Oz: If your raid suggests to, fear either Roar or Tito. Otherwise, just avoid the cyclones when you fight The Crone.

Boss 5: Nightbane
Be very careful when you start trying to AoE the skeletons during the flying phase. Listen to your raid leader for directions on Misdirecting – you may get orders to do a Volley Misdirect to give your AoE tank more aggro, or you may be asked to Misdirect during each landing to assure initial threat on the landing. If you get to Misdirect on the landing, start your Aimed Shot a few seconds before he lands, so as soon as he lands, the Aimed Shot hits, giving your tank a truckload of threat. DO NOT STAND IN THE CHARRED EARTH.

Boss 6: The Curator
Do NOT DPS him unless he’s Evocating (unless your raid advises otherwise). Hit the Astral Flares fast and hard. Hit The Curator as hard as you can during Evocations; pop any extreme DPS macros early, as you won’t have an Evocation to use them in when he hits 15%.

Boss 7: Shade of Aran
DO NOT MOVE WHEN FLAME WREATH IS CAST OR YOUR RAID WILL HATE YOU FOR ALL OF ETERNITY. Your pet, on the other hand, is free to move. Collapse on the Shade when he Blizzards, run like hell when he Arcane Explosions. DO NOT MOVE DURING FLAME WREATH. EVER. NO QUESTIONS ASKED, JUST DON’T DO IT! He has no real aggro table to speak of, so go nuts. He’s a clothie, so you hit hard.

Boss 8: Chess
Just do what you’re told. This is hard to mess up :P

Boss 9: Prince Malchezaar
Use Track Demons – it’s absolutely amazing for helping you navigate through the Infernals if you have to abandon your position. Be careful with threat – ripping off the tank will lead to a wipe in short order. Stay at maximum range if possible, as to avoid death from Enfeeble/Shadow Nova. Keep an eye on your pet’s health if it’s not soaking chain heals. Avoidance is amazing at helping it stay alive. In Phase 3, burn him as fast as possible to avoid being trapped by incoming Infernals. Shadow Nova is always better than an Infernal’s hellfire, though, so collapse on the Prince if you must.

Any boss I didn’t mention I haven’t done – if you want to contribute good, sound advice, comment on this post and I’ll edit it in (and credit you, of course). Now, if you don’t mind, I need to go polish my new signet ring. >_>;
